Venus Williams got safely out of the U.S. Open’s fourth round yesterday. Like her sister Serena, Venus always seems to have the right exit strategy, an instinct and skill for withdrawing from any trouble. Twice the Open champion, she is seeded a hardly intimidating 12th, but she had no trouble escaping No. 5 Ana Ivanovic, the 19-year-old French Open runner-up, 6-4, 6-2.
