   I absolutely love and respect Tyler Perry. I don’t care if he is gay or not. I am happy that he is not like many brothers around here with vanilla on their arms. He has a beautiful from the mother country, young black woman. It appears to me, he has his head up high and is very proud with her.     What does one’s sexual preference have to do with talent and the honest way he is being rewarded for not giving up?
    Some people would complain to God about what comes first, night or day. Please leave this man alone. He has talent, he has business sense, but who knows what happens to him when he is alone in his home after reading the posts about his sexuality? I know if you are in the public eye you have to be ready for negativity, but if we just remind each other that a man has beat all odds to make a honest living, perhaps we can soon keep negative statements to ourselves. I know this hurts him, but say what you will about his plays and movies, his proof is in his mansion. Really, what benefit is it for others to guess a person’s preference, and how is the answer going to affect your life. Applaud another talented human, and strive to find something positive in your lives which will leave less time for you to snoop in the bedroom of others.

    I am proud that he has a black woman, not Latino and or White.
    Maybe we as Africans in Africa we will start taking Black Americans seriously. for we have always thought they were just a laughing stock, make couple of rands(dollars) and then want to be associated with white women. It’s okay to be comfortable in your own Skin. I a Black South African and over here Successful Black men marry Black women. Look at Nelson Mandela he is the most loved Black man in the world and the best part is he doesn’t have to act white.
    And I will like to see more Black American leading by example behave like Africans, then I will be proud to have association or let alone my children to see Black Americans as role models like Mandela is to many of us.

    Tyler Perry “strikes” me as gay, but how does one really know? That goes to say, he has a way about him that seems consistent with a lot of successful, but gay men. And his character Madea, coupled with the fact that he was never seen with any women until the gay rumors began, doesn’t help.

    But we all seem to have these preconceived notions about what makes a masculine man, as if it’s unmasculine to be in touch with your sensitive side. To me, he appears to be a sensitive guy, which is what we need more of.

    One’s voice inflections, tonations and body language can be misleading. And our community is so messed up that we teach our kids to think that if a brotha isn’t poppin’ off at the mouth about sex with women, he must be gay.

    All one needs to do is look at the one celeb who, to this day, has probably fooled everyone, Easy-E., to know that these so-called ruff-necks and thugs aren’t all THEY’RE cracked up to be; many of those street corner hoods are the same DL-Brothas hangin’ downtown in the alleyways after dark.

    In other words, no one can really know until Perry is caught in the act or outs himself. Until then, he’s not gay, in my mind.

    This will sound out of the box-but oh well, who cares (it’s just my thoughts running amok again). I see how Tyler’s plays/movies send a strong message about how males treat their women (the men in powerful positions that ‘own’ their woman and dictate to her what to do, say, wear, etc.). I would think from just viewing one photo of Tyler with his lady friend-we don’t know the situation-we don’t know if this was outing #1 or 10-does it really matter? The point is if her skimpy little, black dress is what she selected to make her feel powerful (you’d have to understand “models” as a general rule they are VERY tough on themselves when it comes to their physical image and typically get perks if they show off a designer’s new frock. They are advised on the latest fire that fuels the fashion industry in ‘their’ world) then how hypocritical would Tyler be if he told her the dress was too revealing etc. He strikes me as a methodical man (obviously-just watch his plays/movies etc. they are crafted with well thought out meanings and dialogue) so his deep and contemplating nature no doubt contributes to his patience in deciding, with good reason, to be selectively picky about who is dubbed “his girlfriend.” I see this picture and yeah, sure I see what everyone else sees initially (but hey at least it’s not the JJ cleavage shot) but then my eyes go to Tyler and I think to myself he’s an incredible person and I trust his judgement and only wish extreme happiness for him in the love department. If she’s the one that haunts his dreams at night then he, like everyone, should have love. But then I read the info. about her and I don’t consider (or see) the outfit when I read she’s a model because I know they are conditioned to always look like everyday is a red carpet day (we’ve all seen those barely there dresses) so I don’t take the way she is dressed into consideration. Besides-shouldn’t he just ‘pal’ around to events and dates with her for awhile before people have him married to her already?
    I just reread the article and it IS a red carpet event for the film industry, so there you go-no worries people…Tyler’s got his head on straight…just remember he is human like the rest of us!

    I picked up the February 2009 Copy of Essence Magazine and my family and I have read and discussed his article.

    He looks great on the cover, but you have to read the article inside.

    Having his 18/19 year old employees/interns call him Mr. Perry seems appropriate since he is their Boss. I have no problem with that.
    I do however, Question his choice in Woman.

    We have come to know him as a Man Of GOD (Christian) so why would he except the charms of a child.

    Gelila looks like the typical 20 something on the “Arm of a Rich Man” in their photos together. I question any relationship where she could be his daughter or niece.

    Advice: Aim Higher and find someone your own age (give or take 5 years at the most).

    The days we live in now you don’t know who’s male or female! People will make you want they want you to be, but my opinion concerning Tyler Perry being gay, I believe in my heart he is all MAN and that he has the ability to do whatever a woman can do!     I absolutely needed to comment on THATO writer`s post that I have conveniently cut and pasted below.

    First, I am glad to know Tyler Perry is not gay. I never thought he was gay. He appears to simply be a person who is focused on the task at hand and understands that relationships don`t have to be broadcasted in order to be “real”. Maybe he is just a private person…

    Secondly, I am sorely disappointed in most of the comments by the Africans posting on this string. I am a young African American woman who has lived and worked in parts of Africa and can attest to most African Americans having a great appreciation and admiration for the continent and our heritage. This post below reflects the great divide within the Black diaspora and how many do not feel welcome to even trace roots back to the continent for fear of rejection from the African`s who were not taken away.

    Fortunately, the color of your skin is not the most important factor in making a relationship actually work. Adhering to a standard, being guided by principles, and chemistry are much higher on the list for a successful relationship. Nelson Mandela married a black woman, but how many of Africa`s leaders have not married black and also gone for the white women…..many! Maybe the numbers are equal to what is seen in the U.S. Naming 1 person is very unfair and offensive, quite frankly. You should check your numbers if that really concerns you. Every culture has people that choose to marry outside of their race…..it is ok…get over it!

    If you REALLY want to look at Tyler and his girlfriend, they are also very different and could possibly experience the same challenges if he had chosen a woman of another color….Color is not the issue, it is CULTURE. They are both from 2 different cultures……..there will be a clash if there hasn`t been already….completely natural occurance when dating someone outside of your culture………Ethiopia is not the same as America or Black America……………another topic..hahaha

    I dont want to use this string as a source to “lift the lid off the garbage and show someone else`s dirt”. I am just saying, let us stop hating each other and always looking to see how much better one diaspora group is from another. Soooo Africans are no better than any other diaspora group, visa versa! We all have prominent leaders within our communities that we love and admire. Nelson Mandela is a shining star to all in the world as well as Martin Luther King, Jr. and countless others that we can boast about. The point is, we should ALL look at them as leaders for us ALL, not just for “my group to the other less important group”. (FYI: I do NOT support inter-ethnic conflict or discrimination based on tribe. Doesnt promote social, economic, or cultural development. Thus, Dafur and Rwanda and countless other conflicts on the continent………THATO seems to be wanting to create this negativity on this string………no tolerance of that in the USA!)

    Lastly, THATO, there are wonderful things to learn in every ethnic community. There are wonderful things about the African American community and its history in America, you should get some books or even talk to some AA elders in your US community. Elders are important in AA community as well is in the communities in Africa. I have learned great and wonderful things about all the different ethnic groups in the countries I have lived in within Africa. I didn`t settle for what my U.S. media showed me about Africans nor did I visit the continent for 2 weeks and “conclude” from what my eyes saw. (you know what I am talking about)…..
