Chaka Khan and her son Damien Holland have been ordered to pay more than $1.3 million to the family of the teen, Christopher Bailey, who was killed from an assault rifle shooting by Khan’s son in their home following a dispute in 2004. Khan’s son Holland, 29, was acquitted of murder in 2006, after saying the weapon went off accidentally. He was angry because Bailey, an aspiring rapper who’d moved in with Khan to record, got involved with Holland’s girlfriend. Neither Khan, nor Holland, responded to a September 2006 wrongful death lawsuit filed by Bailey’s family, and a judgment was entered against them.
According to the New York Daily News, another source who is close to Star Jones and soon-to-be ex-hubby Al Reynolds said the reason why they are getting a divorce is because Star was the bread winner. The New York Daily News gossip pages “xposed” the following:
‘The beginning of the end was reportedly last summer in Saint-Tropez, where the couple loudly fought on the beach over Star being Al’s sugar mama. One friend recounted an incident where Al refused to pay for beach chairs, demanding that Star fork over the cash. “She paid for everything. He never even took out his wallet,” the pal snitched. For the past year, the pair have been living separately, because of Al’s job as a professor of social science at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens.’ (more…)

The Roots are going through some rough times at their label, Def Jam. Since December of 2006, when Jay-Z bounced, the Philly based group said they have experienced more than enough drama. They attempted to satisfy Def Jam by putting out a pop friendly single called “Birthday Girl” featuring Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump. The Def Jam staff loved it, but the fans didn’t thus it being promptly removed from the U.S. version of their new album “Rising Down”. Roots drummer Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson says the group operates far below the radar of Island Def Jam chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid. “He has no idea that ‘Birthday Girl’ isn’t even on the album,” Thompson says. “They don’t know we shot the ‘Rising Down’ video. They just know they approved an (electronic press kit) budget.” (more…)
