“Celebrity Gossip and Entertainment industry news”
After Akon’s credibility was questioned, he decided to answer questions raised by the Smoking Gun about his so-called criminal past by raising his own question about the Web site’s intentions in reporting such a story.
“‘To go back and focus and put energy on negative things like that, to try to discredit an artist, it makes no sense to me,” Akon tells MTV News.
Akon was accused of fabricating much of his past as the ringleader of a “notorious” car-theft ring. Smoking Gun also reported that he didn’t spend four and a half years in prison, as he had told the public. Instead, the Web site found information provided by police, court and corrections records that proved Akon spent only a few months in an Atlanta jail for stealing just one car.
The article questioned his so called thug background who once owned and operated four chop shops that catered to “celebrities and drug dealers.”
Akon had a sit down with MTV News and said that the Smoking Gun article did little to hurt his reputation.
“It’s an article,” he said. “Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions and views. At the end of the day, the Konvict movement is keeping me out of jail. It’s nothing I want to glorify or go back to. Honestly, I’m glad something like that came out, because it opens the minds of other people who’re thinking positive.”
“We’re doing so many positive things,” he continued. “To go back and focus and put energy on negative things like that, to try to discredit an artist, it makes no sense to me. If there was a motive for it, it would be worth entertaining. I’d rather keep it the way it is and leave the article out there. It only helps me. It’s not something I was trying to glorify or turn back to. It was something I was trying to forget. Actually, it worked out for me in a positive way.”
Do you think he lied about this past?

Why can’t we get an honest answer? I mean I was under the impression that he was a criminal, hence the label name “Konvict Music”, and his reputation. You can’t embelish that much & still be seen as trustworthy. If we found out that 50 Cent wasn’t shot 9 times, b4 his second album, and wasn’t in the street would his sales have been as good as they were considering his material?

Yeah, why can’t he give a straight answer…unless he is lying and realizes that he has finally been caught……plus if your not trying to relive your thug out past why the name konvict for your label…..something is strange just like his annoying voice……be real there is no shame in a 3 month baby bid, lol
Music is suppose to be a replica of who you are and how you feel and also what you are going through and have been through in your life. I’m suprised Akon didn’t think no one would question him about his life style or history if the thug life is all he raps about.
