Los Angeles lawmakers are pushing for stronger surveillance of cosmetic medial procedures in the aftermath of Dr. Donda West’s death. West, Kanye West’s mother, passed away after suffering complications from an outpatient surgery procedure done by Dr. Jan Adams in California. The lobbying efforts are pushing for greater regulation of the plastic surgery industry. “These clinics are not hospitals,” Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles) told the Los Angeles Times. “You have to raise the standards.” Behind the whole movement is Dr. West’s niece.
