WOW…Robin Thicke “xposes” Vibe Magazine in an interview with Billboard magazine wherein he says that Vibe denied him a cover shot because he is WHITE!
“When I did a recent interview with Vibe Magazine I asked, ‘Why can’t I get the cover? This is a magazine I love. If there’s one magazine that I’d want to be on the cover of, it’s Vibe,” Thicke told Billboard. “Their response was they don’t have white artists on the cover; that the only white artist they’ve had on the cover was Eminem. I guess if that’s what it is, it is what it is.”
“I respect that because I live in a house with a black woman. I won’t use the word racism. I will say it’s a tough — but rewarding — fight.”
Danyel Smith, Vibe vice president, responded to Thicke’s comments, but didn’t deny them either:
“We have a great deal of respect for Robin Thicke and his music, and we remain flattered by his desire to be on a Vibe cover,” said Smith. “A Vibe cover is a huge milestone in any artist’s career. Recent cover stars include Young Jeezy, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, Usher, Senator Barack Obama, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Robert De Niro, to say nothing of our 15-year history. We wish Thicke the best, and were glad he discusses his thoughts on race and R&B in the new October 2008 issue of Vibe.”
Do you feel that Vibe Magazine is potraying racism by denying Robin Thicke’s the opportunity to be on the cover of their urban magazine? LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS!

they are not ‘portraying’ racism, they are reserving the right to pick whom they choose to be on THEIR cover…no diff than Rolling Stones – welcome to the back of the bus, homie….LOL
First how does Vibe decide who should grace the cover, is there a process involved and has Robin met Vibes criteria, and if not, and race is a factor (even though it won’t come out that way because of LAWSUITS), I feel Vibe really needs to revamp. If an artist, regardless of race, creed, or color fan base lies with a particular audience, and your magazine is one of choice among their fans you should have an opportunity to grace the cover. I just want to know why he wants to be on the cover so bad. Has he really met Vibes criteria (if they have one), or is race a cop-out? By the way I am a huge Robin Thicke fan, and I would love to see him on the cover. Besides he would be more soothing to my eyes that some of the eyesores (Rick Ross, half naked looking like a tatted Gorilla) that has graced the cover. FYI if this was Tina Maria’s era (my mothers’ generation); we wouldn’t even have this discussion. I think he is not urban enough he is too clean if the had a dirty mouth, wore gold teeth, lived in a trailer park, and his mom was on drugs, then he would definitely be on the cover. See fogies, lying artist sell (magazines), being yourself a lover boy singing to the ladies don’t you got to be corny of a fag, and that’s messed up. OH AND LET’S KEEP IT REAL IF HE WAS BLACK AND THIS WAS ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE, AL SHARPTON AND THE NAACP ( which I brought a lifetime membership to 2 yrs ago, but have yet to see them tackle day-day issues, everything is a waiting process, oh unless the media gets a hold of it then you will see their presence) WOULD BE MARCHING AROUND ROLLING STONE HEADQUARTERS. People we can be racist too it is not always against us.
All I’m saying is Robin Thicke has yet to sell albums like Enimen or make thousands of movies like Robert DeNiro. They have made history by outselling & outperforming others. Robin has one hit album & a few singles….its not racist to say, Homie needs to grow some more.
I want to be on Ebony – just cuz I think I should, doesn’t make it so~!
Jennifer Lopez was on the cover yeah she’s hispanic but she said she didnt consider her music Hip Hip sooooo??? Anywho they need to get his fine ass up on that cover..and a close up shot, so we can look into his beautiful baby blues
My whole point is there has to be some underlining reason he was not granted a cover shot, and if it is a racial matter then that’s F–ked Up. Period
DOES ROBIN THICKE HAVE MUCH OF A STORY TO FEATURE? HE’S ALAN THICKE’S SON OF THE YESTER-YEAR SHOW GROWING PAINS. A FEW BLACK SINGERS LIKE PHARRELL HELPED HIM ALONG. HIS SONG- LOST WITHOUT YOU WAS A HIT & HIS WIFE PAULA PATTON, WHO PLAYED IN THE FORGETTABLE MOVIE IDLEWOOD IS BLACK. IT’S OBVIOUS HE LIKES THE “SOULFUL” SOUND. WHAT ELSE IS THERE? THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE THE EXTENT OF IT.
OH GO ON & LET THE GUY TELL HIS STORY. HE DOES HAVE A PRETTY GOOD FOLLOWING OF BLACK FEMALES THAT THINK HE’S FINE. ME NOT BEING ONE OF THEM.
I think Robin deserves to be on the cover!! I appreciate this man’s music!! Its not like he’s fall out boy or the postal service or something… he sings RnB… he is soo soulful and its sad that he cant be on the cover… EMINEM was on the cover and he talks about murdering people… Eminem was crap… he’s smart because he knew what would sale records… but he’s no Jay Z, or weezy, or kanye…but enough said about em….. ROBIN is awesome and i love his music.. i understand that vibe wants to keep black people on the cover because its a magazine for AA and there are magazines out there that dont have alot AA on the cover, but have mostly white people on there…. but i think ROBIN should be an exception because he loves our culture and i admire that! because not too many are like him out there…
eminem wanted to sale records.. and believe it or not the majority of kids who purchased his records where angry little suburban white kids… but those little white kids arent buying ROBINs music… WE ARE…they cant appreciate robin’s soulfulness… hes a true talent WE LIKE ROBIN, So put him on the cover!!
Well is anyone going answer the question? Why has there only been one white person on the cover of vibe? Justin Timberlake, what?
You go Robin. You and Eminem prove that White boys can rap and White boys can sing R & B. You don’t need justification from this racist magazine to justify that you are just as good if not better than the black R & B singers.
YOU GO ROBIN, KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO.
