SPORTS DISH: NBA HIT BY RECESSION, SMITH GETS THE BOOT & MORE!!

The NBA is set to borrow $175-million in the wake of the ongoing nationwide recession. The presumption is that the teams will use the money to cover operating losses. The deal comes with interest rates up to 8.27%. The NBA polled 15 teams and agreed there was a need to go ahead with the plan. Each of the teams can borrow a maximum of $11.66-million from the debt proceeds.

UPDATE: The Coast Guard found the overturned boat belonging to an NFL player off Florida’s Gulf Coast on Monday, and has rescued one of the four men aboard, the St. Petersburg Times reported on its Web site. Read More FoxSports. The Coast Guard says former University of South Florida player Nick Schuyler was rescued Monday off the coast of Florida. The Coast Guard says Cooper, Detroit Lions free agent Corey Smith and another former USF player, William Bleakley, remain missing.

Sad news…NFL players, Corey Smith of the Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders’ Marquis Cooper were among four people on a boat that disappeared off Florida’s Gulf coast. The other two people on the boat were Will Bleakley and Nick Schuyler, both former University of South Florida players. The coastguard revealed that they did not receive a distress signal from the 21ft-long boat. Officials confirm the water was “extremely choppy” and they believed the boat was “in distress.” During the search of a 750-square-mile area, there have been wind gusts of about 45mph and waves reaching up to 10ft high. The players’ vessel left Clearwater at about 6:30am local time on Saturday and was due to return later in the day, but did not come back. The boat was then reported missing at about 1:30am on Sunday. :(  source: news.sky.com

Emmitt Smith is out as an ESPN NFL analyst after two seasons with the network. The network does not plan a formal announcement about the move. Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher, received overwhelmingly negative reviews for his on-air work.

  1. Poor Emmit. He can always join the dancing with the stars tour if he needs a few bucks.

    The missing footbal players is sad. I hope they were wise enough to have their homes in order with life insurance should they not be found. No family should be left without the proper coverage.
