“Celebrity Gossip and Entertainment industry news”

First Lady Michelle Obama and her mother cover the May 2009 issue of Essence magazine. The mom and daughter team did their first interview together at the White House exclusively with Essence. They spoke about their family values, what it takes to raise kids, and being role models for the Black community.
Check out some excerpts from the interview:
Michelle Obama on what being First Lady means to her:
“It’s an honor and a privilege when you walk into the White House-at least I automatically felt a level of obligation. This is a big responsibility, a wonderful platform and I just want to make sure I take every advantage to serve as a role model, to provide good messages, to be a supportive mate to the President and to make sure that my girls are solid.”
Mrs. Marian Robinson on seeing her daughter step into this historic role:
“Well, to me, it’s overwhelming. I never doubted that she could do this. She is doing it with such grace and dignity. So I am just proud. I just hope she does what she wants to do. [Chuckles] Because the things that she wants to do are very important. They mean a lot to her.”
Mrs. Michelle Obama on finding balance:
“Unlike most women, I have a lot of resources: I have my mother living with me. The White House has a staff of people who are there to make my life easy. I don’t have a full-time job, although I work very hard in the role of First Lady. But I have a lot of resources. So I have been able to achieve the balance because I have the support I need.”
The May 2009 issue of Essence Magazine hits newsstands April 10. I got mine in the mail yesterday! Great issue!

Oh wonderful they look…its so inspiring for our young people to see people like themselves in such high power places and doing well.
I can’t get enough of our President & First Lady Obama….
I agree with you Sassy……she is so classy and is always on point with her look…..this sister is SHARP and SMART…….I have always been proud of being a black woman, and Michelle Obama let’s the world see that we are not all lazy, ignorant, and baby mama’s……she is so regal and her aura personifies greatness and I am sooooo proud that she is my sister……keep on keeping on Mrs. Michelle Obama.
This is a classy woman for real… I agree with you Bear and Butterfly on that, too. Michelle is special in so many ways. She run that White House like a Queen. She is what I call a qualified roll model to young black women like myself.
The beauty of a mother and daugther personified in such a manner is totally priceless. Although I no longer have my mom with me, I look back and know that “I am the moral and value instilled in me by my parents (especially mom) and I feel so proud.” Thank you Mrs. Robinson for nurturing the seed.
