We hear that the popular urban magazine which launched in 1993 by the legendary Quincy Jones will be shutting its doors. “On behalf the VIBE CONTENT staff (the best in this business), it is with great sadness, and with heads held high, that we leave the building today,” said Danyel Smith, former Chief Content Officer of Vibe Media Group and Editor in Chief of Vibe. “We were assigning and editing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when we got the news,” Smith said in a statement. VH1 has a long list of new reality shows lined up for 2009-2010! First announcement was Jessica Simpson’s new series The Price Of Beauty. Additionally, VH1 will also air a reality series centered on the family and career of American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino as she refocuses and tries to get her career back on track. Then we hear that The Entertainer, from the I Love New York 2 and I Love Money shows has also scored his own series called The Entertainer, featuring his parents as well as the infamous basement bachelor pad. That’s not it y’all, VH1 has teamed up with Sandra “Pepa” Denton of Salt-N-Pepa and Chilli from TLC – giving each pioneering hip-hop artist her own series revolving around their current lives as single women. The yet-to-be titled Pepa and Chilli series will premiere on VH1 in 2010.

The Washington Post reports that The Jena Six case, which once prompted a massive civil rights demonstration and drew international attention, saw the final chapter played out quietly. The charges against the five – Carwin Jones, Jesse Ray Beard, Robert Bailey Jr., Bryant Purvis and Theo Shaw – had previously been reduced from attempted murder to aggravated second-degree battery after they were accused of beating and kicking schoolmate Justin Barker. I got some AWESOME news guys! Jamie Foxx called in to the Ricky Smiley show this morning and confirmed that since he got such great response to the “Skank Robbers” movie parody at the BET Awards, he is planning to release the movie hopefully by the summer of 2010! Foxx says that Martin Lawrence was kind enough to participate in this last minute project which Foxx thought of “out of the blue” in which he revealed at the 2009 BET Awards. Foxx says that he came up with the concept and was surprised on the great feedback he has gotten so far. Foxx and Lawrence have put together a movie sketch and plan on filming in the near future! I really do hope he follows thru with this movie project because it will be HILARIOUS! Shenehneh and Wanda collabo is a CLASSIC!

Rev. Al Sharpton and MJ’s father, Joe Jackson held a press conference on Monday addressing an interview Joe Jackson did in which he seemed more interested in promoting his new record label than discussing the funeral arrangements of his late son. Sharpton who has been supportive to the Jackson family explained that Joe Jackson’s intent was to show the world that he is continuing Michael’s work in the music industry, while Jackson said he was simply answering questions that were asked of him.

Nick Cannon’s wife, Mariah Carey was spotted at the Plaza Hotel in New York City yesterday shooting scenes for her upcoming music video, “Obsessed”. The video was directed by Brett Ratner and will most likely premiere on July 13th. Mariah’s 12th studio album, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, hits shelves in August 2009.

OMG! I’m sorry but I think this is the funniest story ever. I couldn’t stop laughing after I heard that poor Flava Flav went by Michael Jackson’s family’s compound in Encino shortly after Michael Jackson passed away, but was turned away at the gate. I know I’m being really insensitive right now, but just the thought of Flava Flav buzzing at the gate and being turned away just tickles me. Poor thang!

On a serious note, Flava says as tears came to his eyes “Music has lost a king, music has lost an icon, music has lost a friend It’s unbelievable, but we don’t have any choice but to believe it”. (more…)

Despite the final hearing relative to Chris Brown and Rihanna last week wherein the Judge ordered the couple to stay away from eachother, sources very close to the former couple say that both RiRi and Brown believe the clause in the plea deal is pointless and impractical. “They think it’s unnecessary and ridiculous,” the New York Daily News quotes of “a mutual pal” regarding the protection order handed down last week.
