I was shocked to see Janet Jackson as she walked on stage during the BET Awards to thank MJ fans for their support and out pour of love after his untimely death. You could tell that she was hurt and grieving over the sudden death of her brother which whom she was very close to. Janet and her father Joe Jackson were the only family members in attendance at the 2009 BET Awards. Check out the video recap below: (more…)

@betawards How did you think Jamie Foxx did as the host for the 2009 BET Awards? I think he was funny, witty, and of course his performances of “Blame It” and “She Got Her Own” remix were remarkable. Check out some still shots of Jamie Foxx paying tribute to the great Michael Jackson at the 2009 BET Awardsheld at the Shrine Auditorium on June 28, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. (more…)

One of the most unusual performances last night at the 2009 BET Awards was by Beyonce. Although her vocals were outstanding, the choice of song and wardrobe was very strange to me. “Ave Maria” is one of my favorite songs/renditions on her album, but I think if she did a tribute to Michael Jackson, she would have really nailed it! The wedding dress from Planet Mars outfit was definitely an eye sore! I just was confused about the whole thing. Tell us what you thought?

Last night’s 2009 BET Awards was rather interesting. We can honestly say there was never a dull moment. In my opinion, I believe that BET’s tribute to Michael Jackson could have been better, but overall the show was very entertaining. The best Michael Jackson cover song was done by Ne-yo! He sang “The Lady of My Life” and he killed it! See the recap video below! (more…)

“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” is catching heat from critics for its pair of “jive talking robots” that reportedly draw on black stereotypes for laughs. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I know some of my closest friends who have and they said they were appalled by the way the characters potrayed black people. Director Michael Bay insists that the bumbling ‘bots named Skids and Mudflap, of which one sports a GOLD GRILL/TOOTH, are just good clean fun.
The debate is whether Hollywood has a bad rap sheet for being racially insensitive for laughs (especially in the Transformers sequel)? What do you think???? (more…)

Yesterday I couldn’t sleep after such a somber day. I watched different media outlets who dedicated their airtime reporting the death of Michael Jackson. The one thing that really bothered me was that the “mainstream” media focused alot on Jackson’s series of scandals during his career. Although The King of Pop had been plagued by financial, legal, and medical woes for years, why don’t they focus on his tremedous “talent” that changed the face of music and our culture? Reverend Al Sharpton said it best at the press conference he held in front of the Appollo Theatre, where the singer performed many times with the Jackson 5. (see video below)
