Black Entertainment Television (BET) is reportedly bending over backwards trying to land CW’s cancelled series “The Game.” The network says the entire cast is on board for a fourth season but licensing issues stand in the way. “BET is doing everything it can to acquire the rights to Mara Brock Akil’s The Game,” a source at the cable network tells TVGuide.com. A whopping 1.6 million MJ fans applied to attend tomorrow’s (Tuesday 7 July) memorial service to the King of Pop. However, only 8,750 applicants were successful at getting tickets. Each of the 8,750 randomly selected applicants will receive two tickets to the ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. (more…)

Shannon Price, the wife of actor Gary Coleman, was jailed after police were called to their Utah County home after she allegedly locked Coleman out during an argument and was yelling obscenities out the window. Price had thrown items around the home and upended furniture. Records show the 23-year-old Price was booked for investigation of domestic violence, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. There is no indication that the 41-
year-old Coleman, best known for his stint on “Diff’rent Strokes,” was injured. (more…)

According to AP, former NFL quarterback Steve McNair and a woman (who is allegedly his mistress) were found shot to death Saturday inside a residence in Nashville, police said. Shot twice in the head and two more times in the chest, former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was the victim of a homicide, police declared Sunday. But authorities wouldn’t say it was a murder-suicide — even with his 20-year-old girlfriend, Saleh Kazemi, dead at his feet from a single bullet. Most people however think that its just that, a murder-suicide or passion crime. (more…)

Someone other than me thought that Lil Wayne’s performance on 2009 BET Awards was a bit disrespectful to the theme of the night and the fact that he had lil girls(including his daughter) on stage as they performed “Every Girl” was irresponsible as an artist. Award-winning filmmaker Byron Hurt has become the latest figure to address BET for their airing of Lil Wayne and Drake’s “Every Girl” performance at the awards ceremony. Hurt wrote an open letter to BET President Debra Lee which focused on his thoughts on Weezy’s set and his reaction to the MJ tribute…Check it out here:

Sunday night’s BET Awards show was a disgrace. It’s sad and unfortunate that your network, owned by Viacom, continues to crank out mediocrity and perpetuate negative stereotypes of black men, women, and children. Although you likely received high ratings for the awards show, there is no honor in reinforcing the status quo’s opinion of black people. (more…)
