“You are officially in the loop”
Akon was sentenced to 65 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $250 fine after he plead guilty for harrassing a fan at a concert in New York last year. As you may recall, Akon threw a teen fan off the stage during a concert at the Dutchess Stadium in the summer of 2007. Akon will not face jail time as long as he completes his community service hours.
Akon said he really loves the current state of hip hop especially with the rappers becoming singers. He said that he loves the fact that artist like Lil Wane and Kanye embrace melodies and loves T-Pain use of Auto-Tune.
“As an artist, depending on who you are, you should never be in a situation where you feel threatened by another artist,” he said. “If anything, I embrace the fact that they’re doing it. Music changes every year. I’m just happy [about] the fact that people are jumping on what we’re already doing. I look at it like a tribute to what we’re already doing, and I look at it like a compliment, really. “I say ‘you’re welcome’ every time I hear [rappers singing],” said Akon, who just released his new album, Freedom. “A melody has a way of describing [words], ’cause of the emotions that come with melody. Melody brings it out better than a bland vocal. It’s easier to relate.” (more…)

After Akon’s credibility was questioned, he decided to answer questions raised by the Smoking Gun about his so-called criminal past by raising his own question about the Web site’s intentions in reporting such a story.
“‘To go back and focus and put energy on negative things like that, to try to discredit an artist, it makes no sense to me,” Akon tells MTV News. (more…)
TheSmokingGun.com has exposed Akon as a complete and total fraud when it comes to his so-called criminal past. Since his debut album dropped in 2004, the singer has claimed he served a total of 4 1/2 years in prison for various felonies. The website found that he was convicted of only one felony – for gun possession – and that case ended in a guilty plea with 3 years probation. It also turns out he was arrested for stealing just one BMW. In that case, all charges were dropped against him. Is Akon really a “konvict”?
Akon is going global and has opened an office in London for his Konvict Muzik record label. “We will be scanning Europe and Africa for the next mega superstars,” says Melvin Brown, CEO and co-owner of Konvict Muzik. “When Akon and I partnered and created Konvict Muzik, we agreed that we would have the hottest artists on our roster. I have concentrated on diversifying the artist roster and creating an international presence. I personally look for unique artists.” (more…)
