Common was the featured “man” on BETJ’s show, Leading Men. Two of his DJ’s “xposed” Common and said that he is HEAD OVER heels in love with his boo Serena Williams. Is it the beauty or the booty Common!? LOL! DJ Dummy (I’m not jokin’- thats his name) said that Common’s new album Universal Mind Controlis is about Serena and the love he has for her. Dummy continued by saying that he never saw Common this happy even when he was in a relationship with Erykah Badu and Kerry Washington. He said that Common has it so bad that sometimes he has to slap him back into reality because he always wants to be up under Serena forgetting that he has shows and gig to do.

Who would of thought baseball would go hip hop? Rapper Common, is teaming up with the Chicago White Sox to help raise awareness for his non-profit organization called “The Common Ground Foundation”. Common’s organization will host the Common Ground Foundation Day with the Chicago White Sox on August 12th when the team plays the Royals. The Common Ground Foundation helps to empower youth in underserved communities and provides various life skills. A portion of every baseball game ticket purchased the day of the event will be donated to The Common Ground Foundation.

Common has leaked his new single “Universal Mind Control (U.M.C.)”, which is an insight as to how his new album “Invincible Summer” will be like. U.M.C. was produced by Pharrell Williams with a sample of Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force’s “Planet Rock”. “I created this music for the summertime. It’s about feeling good. This is the type of music I felt was missing from my body of work.” Common said to Billboard.com. Listen to the new single here:

Common is doing it big in the box office! The Chicago rapper just landed a high-profile role in an upcoming movie (fourth installment) of “The Terminator”. Common will star in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, which is being produced by Halcyon Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. and Sony. The fourth installment of The Terminator focuses on John Connor, who leads the human race in an epic battle against the machines. Common will star in the movie as a freedom fighter alongside the central character, John Connor, who is being played by actor Christian Bale. Can’t wait to see this!

Common is definitely on the grind. Not only is he devoting his time to his acting career, but he has been in the studio and is prepared to release yet another album this summer entitled “Invincible Summer”. This album will be the follow up to his Grammy nominated last album “Finding Forever” with the hit single “Southside” in which he collaborated with Kanye West. Invincible Summer won’t feature production from West this time around. The two Windy City residents reunited on Com’s BE and Finding Forever. Common gave ‘Ye credit for inspiring him again, but on the new album he decided to go a different route. The reason was really due to the fact that  West was busy on his Glow in the Dark tour, Common said he couldn’t get much studio time with the producer. So he instead hooked up with the Neptunes and one-time OutKast contributor Mr. DJ. Common describes the result of the new album as being “more of a electro-tinged sound”. Cee-Lo, Chester French, and Santogold are expected to appear on Invincible Summer. The album is tentatively scheduled to drop in July. Can’t wait!

I don’t know what to believe, but rumor still has it that Serena Williams and Common are dating. The couple was spotted in Miami Beach all boo’ed up…People Magazine even had something to say about it:

“The new couple were spotted Saturday night holding hands at a Knight’s Head Microbrew party at the South Beach haunt Mokai. Later in the evening, Williams, 26, and Common, 36, were once again spotted holding hands, trying to get into Prive nightclub – but failed since Common (wearing shorts) violated the hot spot’s dress policy.”

In a recent interview with MTV, Common said that he would be releasing his next album, “The Believer”, in November. He also insists that the project with Q-Tip is definitely in the works. Here’s what he had to say:

“Q-Tip and I been planning the Standard album,” he said, referring to the duo the pair have formed. “We been conceptualizing, but we just gotta continue to work on it. We will. I look at it like two jazz musicians getting together, the way Charlie Parker and cats would get together and do work. I feel a lot more free with my music now that I’m doing films and stuff, because I don’t put as much pressure on the music. It ain’t my only source of income and way to make a living.”

Allhiphop reports that Rapper Common is launching “A Minute,” a new lyrical contest. This contest will help promote to young people to get tested for HIV. The announcement was made today (February 14). The contest, which kicks off today on MTV’s TRL (Total Request Live) show, offers youth the opportunity to submit lyrics or poems addressing why getting tested for HIV is important. Great idea! Common will perform the winning entry in a Public Service Announcement (PSA) that is slated to premiere on National HIV Testing Day, which takes place on June 27. “It’s important to know your status by getting tested because HIV/AIDS is taking a lot of lives in our community and around the world,” Common said. “I had an uncle succumb to HIV, so I’ve personally felt the impact of the disease. Your lyrics can really have an affect on people’s lives and I’ve seen it happen.” The one-minute PSA will air on MTV2 and mtvU, MTV’s college network.

Chicago rapper Common has partnered with Lincoln to promote the 2008 Navigator. Common will be featured in a number of national TV, radio and print advertisements
along with promotional activities for the rapper’s community outreach programs. The first spot, titled “Common,” will debut nationwide on November 25 during NFL Sunday Night Football on NBC. LOVE THIS MAN!

Well, we can say the rumors are TRUE now. Common and Kerry Washington appeared on TRL a couple of days ago to show off their new video for “I Want You”.
They look so cute together (although I can say I’m somewhat jealous). Audience members the chemistry between the couple off and on camera was undeniable!

Relativity Records, the label that released Common’s first four albums, will be a releasing a compilation of the rapper’s most notable hits during his tenure with the label.
The compilation album is entitled, Thisisme Then. It will contain 15 tracks including “I Used To Love H.E.R.,” “Retrospect For Life”, and “Reminding Me (Of Sef)”.
Guest appearances on the album include Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Q-Tip and Cee-Lo of Gnarls Barkley. The disc will also include four videos for the tracks “Take It EZ,” “I Used To Love H.E.R.,” “Retrospect For Life” and “Invocation”. Thisisme Then will hit shelves on November 27th. Common recently released the video for his single “I Want You”as previously reported.  The song is off his  latest album, Finding Forever (album is GREAT). We hear that Common & Kerry Washington. Kerry Washington is the director for Com’s new video “”I Want You.” Since then Washington has been to all his concerts around town and the two were spotted kissing in VA last week. Too cute! I’m so jealous!

Rappers Common and Q-Tip are joining forces to form a group called The Standard, the former A Tribe Called Quest frontman revealed in an interview recently. “It was more of his suggestion,” Tip explained to XXLMag.com. “He was like, ‘We just need to do a record.’ So I’m really excited about that.”  The project will be under  Universal Records and the specifics are still being sorted out.
