The plastic surgeon who operated on Kanye West’s late mother, Dr. Donda West, was sentenced to a year long prison term in Cali. Dr. Jan Adams was arrested last year in Cali for a DUI case. Adams chose jail time vs. probationary term in order to get his physcicians license back once he is released from jail.

Good News, California Senate passed a bill Wednesday that makes it mandatory for patients seeking cosmetic surgery procedures to first undergo a physical exam. This Bill was passed as a result of the death of Kanye West’s mother Donda West. As you recall, the well respected educator/author died last year from a heart condition that was exacerbated by cosmetic surgery.  (more…)

The doctor who operated on Kanye West’s mother was arrested this past weekend. Dr. Jan Adams was pulled over and arrested for DUI in Northern, California. A citizen called in to report that someone was trying to drive onto a freeway through an off-ramp. It ended up being Dr. Adam who was behind the weheel of his 2004 XJ8 and about to head north on southbound I-680. Also turns out he was driving on a suspended license from a previous DUI. He’s scheduled for arraignment today in Solano County Superior Court. WOW!

Los Angeles lawmakers are pushing for stronger surveillance of cosmetic medial procedures in the aftermath of Dr. Donda West’s death. West, Kanye West’s mother, passed away after suffering complications from an outpatient surgery procedure done by Dr. Jan Adams in California. The lobbying efforts are pushing for greater regulation of the plastic surgery industry. “These clinics are not hospitals,” Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles) told the Los Angeles Times. “You have to raise the standards.” Behind the whole movement is Dr. West’s niece.

A California Assembly woman is sponsoring new legislation that would require all patients receiving elective plastic surgery to receive clearance from a licensed doctor. On behalf of Kanye West’s family and pursuant to the death of the late Donda West, the proposed “Donda West Law” would allow doctors to ensure that patients undergoing plastic surgery are healthy and in good medical condition endure the potential complications of general anesthesia.

Kanye West’s mother’s funeral was held on November 20th, 2007, just before the Thanksgiving Holiday. Her champagne-colored coffin arrived by a white Cadillac hearse, and joining Kanye were his famous friends JAY-Z and BEYONCÉ, along with ANITA BAKER and COMMON, who both sang at the service. Kanye broke down while talking about his mother, saying he wanted her to not “rest in peace, but rest in paradise.”

KANYE WEST’s performance in Paris Saturday night, one week after the death of his mom DONDA, was a very emotional one. A youtube video surfaced showing the rapper apparently breaking down on-stage during a Paris show. My heart went out to him. The footage appears to have been shot by an audience member just as the grieving singer started to perform his song “Hey Mama.” Sources tell ET Kanye’s fiancée, ALEXIS, and her son were with him. His DJ and band member were also there to console him during this rough time.

Understandably, Kanye West pulled out of his scheduled performance at last night’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in the wake of his mother’s death. Will.i.am replaced him. The show featured a reunion performance from the Spice Girls and took place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. The show will air Dec. 4 on CBS.

As for Kanye, a source said that he didn’t think his mother needed any physical improvement.  “I don’t think Kanye was aware Donda was getting the surgery, or certainly the extent of it,” the family friend told the Daily News. “He loved and supported her just the way she was. He thought she was beautiful.”  The source also said a funeral for Dr. West has been scheduled for Tuesday in Oklahoma City.     

Chicago State University will hold a memorial service for Dr. Donda West on Friday. Dr. West was a former professor and served as chair of the university’s English, Communications, Media Arts & Theater Department. Robyn Wheeler, a spokesperson for CSU said the service “will really be a celebration of her life,” “We are bringing together a number of faculty members who knew her well to organize an upbeat celebration. Her spirit was such that this requires a feeling of fun.”

 “Access Hollywood”  claimed that an unnamed source said Dr. Adams was one of two cosmetic surgeons recommended to Kanye’s mother by Winfrey. A rep for the talk show host has denied the report, stating: “Absolutely untrue. Oprah did not introduce Dr. West to Dr. Adams.” Dr. Jan Adams, the Harvard graduate plastic surgeon who operated on Kanye’s mother has had the following malpractice lawsuits filed against him:
