So So Def mogul Jermaine Dupri is facing a $250,000 defamation lawsuit over a private phone call included on Daz Dillinger’s 2006 album So So Gangsta. The lawsuit, filed by a woman named Aika Kendrick, alleges that Daz and Dupri recorded a personal phone conversation which they then used as a backdrop for the song “The One,” which features Jagged Edge and details the difficulty of leaving an emotionally abusive relationship. Janet Jackson plans to partner with MTV to produce a new reality show. The pop star will be featured as a mentor to aspiring singers and dancers in the forthcoming unscripted talent series.
“It’s really about finding who’s the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher. And we’ll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn’t typically find them from,” the show’s executive producer David Broome told Variety. “We’ll go to YMCAs, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show.” (more…)
Janet Jackson is about to begin her first North American tour in 7 years. This tour will be to promote her new album “Discipline”. This album has had great success already and is her sixth No. 1 album under her belt.
She mad the announcement this Monday during her appearance on “The Ellen Degeneres Show”. The U.S.-Canadian “Rock Witchu” tour will begin Sept. 7 in Vancouver, British Columbia, with subsequent dates scheduled for New York and Washington, D.C., according to a rep for the tour’s promoter Live Nation. Mariah Carey will replace Janet Jackson on this week’s edition of Saturday Night Live. Jackson was due to appear as the musical guest on this week’s SNL, however due to a battle with the flu she was forced to cancel. Mariah Carey was more than happy to replace Miss Janet as it will assist her promotional launch for her new album E=MC² which drops on April 15th.
According to Us Magazine, Janet Jackson was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles “late last night with a shortness of breath”. A spokesperson for the singer said this morning, “Janet is fine. She’s just battling this flu like everyone else.” (more…)

The singer, whose “Discipline” debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 181,000, anticipates to launch her tour in mid-September. “We’re talking about America first,” Jackson tells Billboard.com, “but I think we’re going all over. I think I’m going to go back to Australia, back to Africa, obviously go to Asia, go to Europe for sure.” “It’ll be an uptempo, upbeat show. According to Billboard.com, Janet Jackson is in the #1 spot on next week’s Billboard charts.However, the label heads at Def Jam are not that happy with the 178,000 copies sold, due to the huge promotion that Def Jam pushed behind the project. Discipline landing this spot will be the first time Janet has had a #1 album since 2001’s All For You, but this is also her lowest first week sales of her career. (more…)
