Rumors spread earlier this week that Kelly Rowland was on suicide watch due to her receiving news that she would be dropped by Columbia Records as a solo artist. The rumors are false. Kelly Rowland released a statement regarding her departure which was a mutual decision, and she said she will still be signed as a member of Destiny’s Child.  “Because Columbia Records has been my home base as an artist for more than a decade, the decision to move out on my own required a lot of soul-searching,” said Rowland in a statement. “As a solo artist, I felt the need to explore new directions, new challenges, and new freedoms outside my comfort zone and my friends and family at Columbia have been incredibly understanding about my evolution,” she continued. “I want to thank everyone at Columbia for the love and support they’ve shown and I will never forget how many good times we’ve had over the years.”     (more…)

So we hear that Kelly Rowland was dropped by Columbia Records recently. This comes two months after she fired her longtime manager, Matthew Knowles. She was still working on her third album, when she got news that she was going to be dumped sources claim. Supposedly, the label execs felt that Kelly Rowland was “no longer commercially viable”. Her first album Simply Deep dropped in 2002 and sold over three million copies worldwide. Don’t think you second album did too well

Kelly Rowland has a new gig. Bravo has hired Rowland to join Isaac Mizrahi to host a new reality show which will sort of be like the long gone “Project Runway”. Rowland and Mizrahi will host a show simply called “The Fashion Show” which follows professional designers on their quest to be recognized in their profession. The participants will compete in challenges along the way and have their fate on the show determined by a panel of judges as well as a studio audience. Winners will have their designs sold for the mass retail market. I hope this is as good as Project Runway because I really do miss that show! (more…)

Well, at least just for one night. The girls got together for Kelly Rowland’s 28th Birthday party hosted by Tank and LaLa Vasquez at Opera in Hollywood, California on Tuesday. It was good to see them back together!

It’s official. Kelly Rowland is parting ways with her long-time manager Matthew Knowles, the father of superstar Beyonce. Kelly Rowland has received great success in Europe, but did not get great reviews in the U.S. She released her album entitled simply “Ms. Kelly” in 2007 and it sold less than 500,000 copies nationwide. People say her album was pushed back to make room for Beyonce’s successful “B-Day” album. In an official jiont statement, Knowles and Rowland said their split was amicable.

“Mathew Knowles has been a positive influence in my career. I have had great success under his guidance—both as a member of Destiny’s Child and with my solo projects,” stated Rowland.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Mathew said:

“After a very positive meeting between Kelly Rowland and myself, we have amicably agreed to end our professional relationship. My company, Music World, will continue to manage Destiny’s Child as a group. As an artist Kelly has incredible talent and I only wish her the best. We will always be family first and foremost and as a dad I can only have love for Kelly.”

Do you think Matthew Knowles focused on Beyonce more than Kelly Rowland’s career?

We hear that Kelly Rowland has decided to leave manager Matthew Knowles (Beyonce’s father). Word is that the former Child of Destiny is jumping ship on Papa Knowles to ink a deal with American Idol producer Simon Fuller, who has managed the Spice Girls and Carrie Underwood. Do you think this will cause friction between Beyonce and Kelly?

Kelly Rowland is going to Africa. The R&B star will visit Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls in Henley-on-Klip, south of Johannesburg. She will be speaking with the students about HIV/AIDS awareness during a workshop which includes an awareness documentary she produced using young people from Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa and New York. Must be nice! Kelly Rowland spent close to $400,00 on a night out with her close friends. The former DC3 member racked up the large bill on guests which included U2’s Bono at Amika’s Weekend in St. Tropez, France on Friday. A spy says, “Kelly was the ultimate host and even when the bar bill began to spiral out of control, she refused to close the tab. She had 30 very thirsty pals, so it was always going to be a pretty big night.”

Kelly was having a great time spending her money as well. “At one point, Kelly started dancing wildly and put on a silly Viking hat, much to the hilarity of everyone”, the source says. “Bono arrived quite late and Kelly told him to order whatever he liked. A good night was had by all.” (more…)
