Two-time Grammy winner LL Cool J will serve as a co-host for the star-studded 2008 Grammy nomination concert. The one-hour special will mark the first time that Grammy nominations have been
announced live on primetime television. The Grammy Nominations Concert: Countdown to Music’s
Biggest Night airs live December 3 on the CBS network. I guess I won’t mind watching LL lick his lips for an hour. It will be more entertaining than the boring Grammys!

Janet Jackson isn’t doing ot well with this Rock Witchu tour. LL Cool J has decided to pull out as her opening act. The rapper’s publicity firm announced Monday that he has dropped out as the headliner for Jackson because of unnamed scheduling conflicts. No opening act replacement has been announced. Jackson’s upcoming shows are Tuesday in Auburn Hills, Mich., and Saturday in New York. She is expected to announce more dates.

2008 BET Hip Hop Awards went down in Atlanta this past weekend at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center. Lil Wayne was named “Lyricist of the Year” at 2008 BET Hip-Hop Awards taped in Atlanta on Saturday. The show will air on BET on Thursday, October 23 at 8 PM! Check out some pictures from the event…

LL’s new album, Exit 13 was originally slated for a fall 2006 release, however, after a 2 year delay, it will be released August 5,2008.

LL Cool J has partnered up with Sears to launch a new hip hop clothing line. The clothing line is called LL Cool J for Sears and will be catered to girls, boys, juniors, and young men. The line will be available in 450 Sears stores by September. LL already has a high end clothing line called Todd Smith. The Todd Smith clothing line boats a high-end look which incorporates classy tailored looks with lavish fabrics. The men’s collection is overseen by Jeremy Brandrick of Dolce & Gabbana. Additionally, the well respected rapper is currently working on his 13th album entitled “Exit” which will be his last album under Def Jam.

LL Cool J will be dropping his first ever Mixtape. The mixtape is entitled “The Return of the G.O.A.T.” which was put together X-clusively by DJ Kay Slay. “A lot of people are under the misconception that LL is making those grown-and-sexy records, that he ain’t with the street vibe anymore,” Slay told MTV News’ Mixtape Monday. “I think he wanted to step back and let people know he’s still the G.O.A.T.” The mixtape will feature collaborations with Busta Rhymes and other celebrity guests. This mixtape will introduce his last project under Def Jam which he titled “Exit 13″. The legendary rapper will be free and clear of his recording contract after Exit 13 is released.

LL Cool J debuted his Todd Smith clothing line on Saturday at Macy’s in Culver City, California. Here’s how he explained the thought behind his clothing line:

“The inspiration was just my personal life, personal tattoos, what I’ve been through as a man and as an artist. The actual logo is an African symbol that means bravery and fearlessness, because in life that’s what you need when you’re going after a vision. And [when you’re] determined to make something happen in life, you have to have bravery and fearlessness”…

LL Cool J has some words for the president of Def Jam, Jay-Z. LL recently spoke to MTV about his frustration with Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter ever since the mogul took office. “I just don’t feel like he had the necessary experience to do that job,” LL said. “I don’t know any other record company that he worked for where he learned how to run this business.”  “This is a label that started in 1984 and you just can’t give somebody a job because you want to attract talent and look sexy… because there are artists that suffer,” he continued. LL says ” I’m not anti-Jay-Z, I’m [just] pro-LL,” said he was open minded about Jigga’s appointment as president in the beginning.  “I would be completely supportive because you never know what a man knows and you never underestimate people and you never assume it’s gonna be a bad move, so you embrace it with open arms,” he concluded.

“I haven’t spoken to him in a long time, it’s unfortunate,” said LL. “The bottom line is — you gotta do your job man. And if you don’t know how to do your job then maybe Universal needs to pay you the money you deserve as an artist and give somebody who really knows the job, the job.” LL also had an issue with last week’s release of Jay-Z’s “American Gangster” album and how it took precedence over everyone else at the label.  “Let’s take this soundtrack for instance; shouldn’t there be other Def Jam artists on this soundtrack? Shouldn’t this be the big Def Jam project with Def Jam artists involved,” he asked. “Nas has a record, (another Def Jam artist) has a record. You have LL working on an album for a year and then you have the president putting out his album in the middle of the schedule. I mean… really look at what’s going on.”

I kinda understand LL’s frustrations…but if you want to be heard, it takes a lot more than putting the president of your label on blast on MTV. I believe he should’ve confronted Jay and talk about his issues with how is conducting the label.
