Tyler Perry just chose the queen of R&B, Mary J. Blige, to co-star in his next film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” which will hit the big screen on Sept. 11. Blige will be joined by cast member Taraji P. Henson. MJB will play a nightclub manager and singer who is good friends with Henson’s character. I can’t wait for this to come out! The movie is actually being shot now at TP’s Atlanta Studios. We hear “Madea” will be making an appearance in the movie. Lawd No! This will be Blige’s third acting stint. She was a guest on HBO’s hit show, Entourage. Her last big-screen appearance was in the 2001 drama “Prison Song.”

As previously reported, BET Honors went down this past weekend. We heard there was a bit of drama on the set. Keyshia Cole was supposed to sing one of Mary J Blige’s song for a BET Honor Tribute to Blige. But we hear that Blige’s husband/manager, Kendu Isaacs, said NO to the idea. “He thought there was already too much comparison between Keyshia and Mary,” an insider said. “They were going back and forth on it all week. It got ugly.”

Don’t mess with Keyshia…I’m sure she was PISSED! Keyshia Cole ended up paying tribute to a dancer by the name of Judith Jamison. Monica and Anita Baker sang for Mary as a tribute instead. WOW!

BET Honors ceremony will take place on January 17th to kickoff the inauguration of America’s first black president, Barack Obama. BET will also be holding their firest ever Inaugural Ball! Tyler Perry and Mary J Blige will be saluted at the second annual BET HONORS. Majic Johnson, South Carolina Congressman James E. Clyburn, and others were also chosen to recieve the prestigious award. The event will be hosted by actress Gabrielle Union and will broadcast on the network on February 9th at 9 p.m. EST.   “The BET Honors’ recognizes excellence in achievement and celebrates inspiration,” said the network’s programming head Stephen Hill. “Last year’s inaugural show had a number of leave-your-seat performances dedicated to our honorees. This year, we’re finding new ways to musically pay tribute so look forward to fresh, unforgettable moments. The pride will show.”

Additionally, BET’s Inaugural Ball, to be held at DC’s Mandarin Oriental hotel, will benefit America’s Promise Alliance, the nation’s largest non-profit alliance dedicated to the well-being of children and youth founded by Colin and Alma Powell.       

BET has advised that the Ball will support two institutions that are committed to the education and advancement of today’s youth in Washington, D.C. – Dunbar High School and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.

BET will air a one-hour special surrounding the inauguration called “Yes We Will! BET’s Inaugural Celebration” on Jan. 20.

R&B superstar, Mary J. Blige, will be launching her new fragrance via Carol’s Daughter called MY LIFE by Mary J. Blige. Blige, who is an ambassador for the beauty line Carol’s Daughter, said “I am Carol’s Daughter and my fans are Carol’s Daughter users”, “So it just made sense to partner.” Set for a release sometime next year, her MY LIFE fragrance borrows its name from her second album. “Ever since I was a child, I loved buying products that made me feel beautiful and clean,” Mary said to WWD. “I’m a total beauty nut — you should check out all the junk in my bathroom.”

With only one day remaining until the BIG ELECTION DAY, Jay-Z and Sean Diddy, Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles and Mary J Blige came thru to South Florida to encourage everyone to vote despite the long poll lines. I, Miss Xpose, was in line for five in a half hours yesterday people! You can do it too! “It’s bigger than us,” Combs said. “We have to do it for our children, we have to do it for the people that died for us to have the right to vote.” Hova, Diddy, and MJB appeared before a large crowd of almost 800 plus people at the Florida Memorial University for a “Last Chance for Change” rally Sunday afternoon. “We stood in line to get the new Lil’ Wayne CD,” Liles said. “We stood in line to get a new pair of Jordans. We stood in line to get in here. So we ain’t afraid of no lines.” SO TRUE! None of the artist performed, but they took the time to create awareness as to the importance of this campaign.

“We have been doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result,” Blige said. “Please do something different. Barack Obama is a true example of something different. He’s a true example of something our children can have in the future, what they can look at and say: ‘Wow, we can really, really do something. We can really, really be something.’”

Blige was so drunk at the Velvet Room nightclub, that her husband Kendu grabbed her by the neck and said “Stop it Mary, your drunk, we agreed to only one drink”, sources tell me. After a night of bottle poppin, Kendu had to carry his wife out the club! LOL!

Fifteen of the hottest female vocalists in the game will be joining voices in a charity tune called “Just Stand Up”. The song features Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes and Carrie Underwood. WOW!

The song will be revealed on September 2 on iTunes. All proceeds will benefit cancer research. The idea of the song was created by Antonio “L.A.” Reid, who produced it with longtime creative colleague Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds.

All fifteen of the singers will perform the song live on Sept. 5 during the “Stand Up to Cancer” television special, set to air simultaneously on ABC, NBC and CBS. The fundraiser program will also feature other celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, Lance Armstrong, Katie Couric, Sally Field, Salma Hayek, Meryl Streep, Forest Whitaker and Reese Witherspoon who will all assist in this great cause.
Founded in 2007, Stand Up to Cancer is a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation that calls upon the entertainment-industry and platforms to help fight cancer.

Mary J. Blige and the producer of the track “Work That”, Theron “Neef-U” Feemster, are being sued Dream Family Entertainment. Dream Family Ent., who filed the $2 million dollar lawsuit, claims that Feemster created the song while still signed to their company. Dream Family says they never gave Feemster or Blige’s label, Geffen, the permission to release the song which is also featured in an Applie Ipod commercial and the iTunes store.

Growing Pains, which is Blige’s eighth album, debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart and #1 on the R&B Hip-Hop charts.

This is definitely a case of someone being at the right place at the RIGHT time. R&B Queen, Mary J. Blige was shopping at the Diane Von Furstenberg store in NY Meatpacking District, where she witnessed a woman who seemed very upset that she could not afford a dress that she had on layaway for awhile. “The girl had a dress on hold that she loved, and the bill was $900. She thought it was only $500, and she couldn’t afford it,” a witness told the New York Post’s Page Six.” Well, after Mary J. overheard her, she told the saleswoman, “Go get the girl. I want to pay for the balance on the dress,” the witness recounted. WOW! The lady left with the dress she wanted. Must be nice!

For Essence’s annual “Black Music Month” issue, the urban publication picked three contemporary R&B artists Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, and Mary J Blige as their cover girls. All three have there own individual covers (see pics below). Essence not only photographed all three singers, but also interviewed all of the ladies together, here’s an excerpt from the interview:

Essence: Have you ever regretted folding to pressure from record labels?

Alicia Keys: In the beginning, I didn’t understand the concept of boundaries. I wanted to make sure the music was heard, but there’s a price you pay for that. I did everything and anything to promote my first album, like flying from New York to Los Angeles and back on the same day, which was a bit excessive.

Essence: Have you figured out the ingredients for the perfect song?

Mary: Yes, but I won’t tell. [Laughs] For me, it’s about being real and honest. And the lyrics have to be relatable.

Jill: Oh, I wish I knew. I think Ne-Yo knows. I think Carvin Haggins, who does a lot of writing for Musiq Soulchild, has the ingredients, too. My songs are mostly about life experiences, about being human and falling and getting back up. About loving and losing.

Essence’s annual “Black Music Month” June issue features a special triple-cover tribute to the Queens of R&B–Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott and Alicia Keys. The article entitled “Ladies First” will talk about how these queens are still holding it down and dominating the charts.  This month’s issue also features the Essence Summer Music Hot List, a guide to summer releases, gadgets and concerts, including the 2008 Essence Music Festival. Hope you got your tickets! This is going to be a great summer event!

Rumor has it that Mary J Blige and her husband Kendu have set up an appointment to visit California Fertility Partners’ in Los Angeles. This fertility clinic is one of the most prominent clinic’s around, and it is the same clinic that Jennifer Lopez had gotten her consultation when she was trying for a baby. Despite previous pregnancy rumors, Mary J has never been pregnant, but would like to start a family.

She has had much success on the Heart of City tour, which is said to be one of the best tours in history.
