Model Chanel Iman as Althea Gibson

Chanel pays tribute to the late late Althea Gibson who tore down the color barrier of competition in 1950, when, at age 23, she became the first African American to compete in major U.S. championship and, in 1957, the first to win Wimbledon. She definitely paved the way for Serena and Venus Williams.

First Lady Michelle Obama covers People magazine again and reveals some personal details about her marriage to President Obama:
“We haven’t had that time together for [years], so that explains a lot why we all feel so good in this space. I don’t want anybody to think it’s that easy. It works because we really work at it. … We have a strong marriage, but it’s not perfect.”
She also spoke about their new addition to the Obama family due on April 1st. Sasha Obama, their daughter, has insisted that they get their new dog soon! “So Sasha says ‘April 1st.’ I said, ‘April.’ She says, ‘April 1st.’ It’s like, April!” she said.
The first lady favors Portuguese Water Dogs as a breed, which makes sense because they don’t shed and are considered one of the more hypo-allergenic types of dog. The elder daughter, Malia, is allergic to dogs.
Love our First Family!

We reported last week that TY, the maker of the famous Beanie Babies, came out with two dolls called “Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia” as part of their TyGirlz collection. I knew it was a scheme to get rich off of this historic moment. But a rep from TY insisted that the dolls were not based on President Obama and the First Lady’s daughters. Nevertheless, First Lady Michelle Obama is furious about the dolls.
“We believe it is inappropriate to use young, private citizens for marketing purposes,” the First Lady’s press secretary, Katie McCormick Lelyveld, said in a statement Friday.

Meet the man behind Michelle Obama’s hair. We all can admit that she has a nice set of strands on that head. Its always bouncy and very shiny. Well, hairstylist Johnny Wright will take credit for keeping the First Lady beautiful during her husbands campaign, especially at the Democratic National Convention. He first worked with Michelle Obama on the set of Essence Magazine in March of ‘07. From there, Wright was called upon many times (including for the Vogue Magazine shoot) to coif the First Lady’s hair.

“It was a lot of fun,” Wright says. “I styled her that day and did a little trim. I typically cut Michelle’s hair when it’s dry. For most black women, it’s best to cut when your hair is dry and straight because you can cut it at the proper length.” (more…)

We all anticipated yesterday. The day our President Barack Obama took an oath and is now our 44th President of the United States. I’m sure you were all overwhelmed with joy as I was.
Some of you even anticipated what the First Lady Michelle Obama chose as her inaugural ballgown. I thought it was absolutely beautiful, but some fashion critiques beg to differ. The First Lady chose up and coming designer Jason Wu, a 26 year old designer who was born in Taipei. He has been designing for just a few years and only recently got picked up by major stores like Nordstrom.
One of the many emotional moments of yesterday was watching our President and First Lady during their first dance as they danced to Etta James “At Last” sung by pop star Beyonce. There was not a dry eye in the room. Check out the recap:

So there is a lot of talk about how Chief Justice Roberts messed up while reciting the oath to President Obama. Was it sabotage or a pure mistake? Maybe Chief Justice was nervous? Who knows! LOL! Check it out!

Fashion critics are also talking about Michelle Obama’s Inauguration Ceremony Dress. It was designed by Cuban-born desiner Isabel Toledo. She accesorized the yellow dress with olive green leather gloves and a pair of matching green Jimmy Choo shoes. The daughters of the President and First Lady wore cute lil outfits from J.Crew! (more…)
