As you may know, incarcerated Mike Vick will be out of prison as early as May. We hear that Mike Vick allegedly has written a book while in prison and is seeking a publisher and co-authors. This may be a quick way to make some extra cash to work his way out of bankruptcy. Supposedly the book details his road from poverty to becoming the highest paid quarterback in NFL.

I’m sure PETA would suggest that any profits from this book should go to their organization. So I’m not sure if it would work out for Mike.

According to AJC, his attorney said this about the rumored literary piece:  “That may or may not be in the making,” [attorney Daniel] Meachum said. “That would too premature right now. But I’m committed to helping Mike get back on his feet.”

According to Yahoo Sports, NFL star Michael Vick will be allowed to finish his sentence under home confinement because there is no room at a halfway house for him, a government official told The Associated Press Thursday. Vick is serving a 23-month sentence after pleading guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting operation at a home he owned in eastern Virginia’s Surry County. He also admitted to participating in the killing of several underperforming dogs.

Vick’s lawyers confirmed they expect Vick to be released to his Hampton home at some point on or after May 21. Vick will be on electronic monitoring and will only be allowed to leave home for activities approved by his probation officer, the official said. He is eligible for release in July.

Mike Vick plans to resume his pro football career. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who suspended Vick without pay, has repeatedly said he will review Vick’s status after the legal proceedings are completed.

We hear that PETA is requesting that NFL star Michael Vick undergo mental tests before he can play NFL again. WTF? We hear that PETA sent a long letter to NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, saying that Vick’s mental should be checked thoroughly before he can play again. As you may know, Michael Vick is serving a prison sentence for charges stemming from a dogfight gambling ring. “Saying sorry and getting his ball back after being caught enjoying killing dogs in hideously cruel ways for many years doesn’t cut it,” PETA president Ingrid Newkirk said.

According to EURWEB, PETA’s letter comes following 18-months of negotiations with Vick’s reps about an agreement for Vick to film an anti-dogfight advertisement after his release from prison. But a PETA statement said Vick’s attorneys sought an assurance that the group would support his return to the NFL.

PETA decided to withdraw the TV advertisement offer pending results of a brain scan and psychiatric evaluation on Michael Vick.

No offense to animal lovers, but don’t you think PETA is really taking this overboard? Leave us your thoughts.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has learned that Michael Vick spent $201,840 of his money hours before beginning his prison sentence for his role in a dogfighting ring.      

“The day he went to jail, Michael Vick bought a $99,000 Mercedes. He cashed four checks that totaled $24,900. He gave $28,000 to the mother of his oldest child. He paid a public relations firm $23,000 and gave a friend $16,000,” the newspaper reported.      

The day’s spending, in fact, was but a small part of the $18.2 million that flew out of Vick’s hands from 2006 to 2008, according to documents filed recently in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk, Va.
Vick, 28, is currently seeking the court’s protection from his creditors. They are particularly interested in his increased spending in the three months before he reported for jail.      

The documents reveal that Vick chose to handle most of his business in cash.  In 2007, documents show he used cashier’s checks to withdraw $908,500 from his bank accounts. During a two-year period, he wrote checks payable to “cash” totaling almost $1.1 million. His spending escalated as his prison sentence neared.
From Aug. 27, 2007, the day he pleaded guilty in a Richmond federal courthouse, until Nov. 19, the day he bought the new Mercedes before reporting to jail, Vick shelled out $3,627,291.      

Those transactions are “of special interest” to groups suing Vick for repayment from, said attorney Ross Reeves of Norfolk, who represents unsecured creditors, including the Atlanta Falcons. The team wants Vick to return $3.75 million from a 2004 bonus.      

“Where did these assets go and for what purpose?” Reeves said in an interview. “A lot of what Mike Vick was doing was planning for being incarcerated. He wanted to provide for his family, and he made that clear.”

In related news, reports today state that Michael Vick is putting his mother’s home that she currently lives in on the market. Apparently he can’t afford the approx. $5k/month mortgage and she can’t either. Seeing that her salary of $100k/year has now been cut since her employer/son is in lock up. She is in charge of one of his companies that has now been shut down.

Former Altanta Falcons star, Mike Vick, was in a Virginia court room Tuesday (yesterday) and entered his guilty plea in an effort to get an early release. He is currently serving a 23-month jail sentence in Leavenworth, Kansas for the federal offense and could be released to a federal halfway house in July.

As you may recall, Vick is serving a prison sentence for federal dogfighting charges. Without the resolution of the state charges, Vick would not have been eligible for release to a halfway house.

I love animals, and no offense to PETA, I just feel this is just a bit too much. There are people out there who committed far more worse crimes and recieve a slap on the wrist…and this dude may be released to a half way house! Jeez!
In the federal plea, the former Pro Bowl selection did not admit to killing any dogs personally or gambling on the fights. The summary of facts accompanying the original plea agreement said Vick was aware four dogs were killed in 2002 and six to eight dogs were killed in April 2007 as a result of the “collective efforts” of Vick and two of his co-defendants.

Suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones entered an alcohol treatment facility. This follows a 4-game suspension by the NFL for violating its personal conduct policy. This is OVERDUE! This dude always needed help!

According to PilotOnline and Local News, NFL Star, Michael D. Vick, who was imprisoned after pleading guilty last year to federal charges related to dogfighting, filed Monday for bankruptcy-court protection from creditors, including the Atlanta Falcons.

In the Chapter 11 filing, Vick said he his liabilities were in the range of $10 million to $50 million, and that his assets were somewhere between $10 million and $50 million.

Chapter 11 enables a business or an individual with significant assets to restructure their debts under court supervision.

Vick’s 20 largest unsecured creditors have claims amounting to $12.75 million, according to the filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. WOW!

Mike Vick is back on the field, but is taking a drastic pay cut…According to the New York Daily News, the jailed NFL player is the quarterback of his football team at the United States Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan, where he is serving a 23-month sentence after pleading guilty to federal dogfighting charges. He is making 15 cent per hour according to officials. Poor Vick is doing anything to pass the time in the slammer. “He is staying in shape,” Arthur Blank, Falcons Owner, told the Daily News. “Apparently, there was a prison football team and he played quarterback for both sides.” Blank also says his star QB is washing pots and pans for 12 cents an hour.   “I just try to be supportive and as understanding as I can be,” Blank said. “He talks about the process he is going through and what he has learned, the lessons of life, how he’s going to come out a different person. He’s sorry he has affected so many people in a negative way — the league, our club, our fans. He feels awful about that. The letters sound quite sincere to me. From a mental standpoint, he sounds good.”

Eurweb reports that The National Geographic Channel has announced a new series that will follow the attempted rehabilitation of dogs once belonging to Michael Vick’s illegal dogfighting operation. Are you serious? The show is called “Dogtown”. This series will spend the next few months documenting four of the 22 animals that were seized from the jailed quarterback’s Virginia property and placed at “Dogtown, the Best Friends” animal sanctuary in Utah for rehab. The four selected dogs are among the toughest cases at Dogtown, where experts attempt to “resocialize these seriously aggressive pit bulls,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. “Dogtown” is currently in production on episodes set to premiere in the summer. Poor Mike! It just never ends!

A teenager who is suing former Miami Dolphin player, Marcus Vick, for millions of dollars because she claims she was in a almost two-year sexual relationship with Vick and was underge. Anything to get money these days huh? The young woman is hoping Vick’s imprisoned brother Michael Vick will corroborate her claims. In papers filed in Carroll County Circuit Court this week, the 18-year-old asked a judge to compel the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback to give a sworn statement about what he knows about the alleged relationship between her and Marcus Vick. The woman, who was 17 when she filed the lawsuit against Marcus Vick last year, claims in the suit that she was a 15-year-old honor student at Christiansburg High School when she first had sex with a then 19-year-old Marcus Vick in January 2004 while he was a quarterback at Virginia Tech. Marcus Vick has denied a relationship with the woman. The woman wants to know if Michael Vick knows anything about the alleged relationship, said Steven Smith, one of the lawyers representing the woman in the $6.3 million lawsuit. “If Marcus has told Michael certain information about this case or has discussed it with him, it would certainly be relevant,” Smith said. A hearing on the request is scheduled for Jan. 23 in Carroll Circuit Court. An after-hours message left Friday with Marcus Vick’s attorney, Lawrence Woodward Jr., was not immediately returned. He has declined previously to discuss the case with the media. Marcus Vick and two of his former teammates at Tech were convicted in 2004 of three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for giving three underage girls liquor and encouraging them to strip. In the lawsuit, the girl identifies herself as the one who had sex with Vick on that night in January 2004 that led to his arrest and conviction.

Michael Vick could be getting out of prison and back in the NFL by the 2009-10 season. The reason behind this is that Vick will be applying for a prison-monitored drug rehabilitation program done only in Leavenworth, KS. Yahoo! Sports reports that Vick was being transported to a minimum security satellite prison that is under the jurisdiction of the Leavenworth facility. Under this program, Vick could be released after serving only 12 months of the 23-month sentence he was given Dec. 10 in Richmond, Va. His release date is not clear as of yet…but he will definitely be released earlier. Two sources tell Yahoo! Sports that Vick qualified for the drug program because his 23-month sentence included his failed drug test for marijuana after pleading guilty to the dog fighting charges. If Vick were to be released in late 2008 or early 2009, he may be able to play for the NFL for the 2009-10 season! YEAH!

Vick purchased the land for $34,000 in 2002 and built a house on the property in 2003. The grounds also house a full-size basketball court, four outbuildings and dozens of dog cages, where Vick operated his illegal dog fighting enterprise. The quarterback was sentenced to 23 months in prison last week for financing the underground operation.  The house also has two master suites and a media room with wet bar. A double-sided gas fireplace separates the bathroom from the bedroom in the upstairs master suite. Other amenities include jetted tubs, freshly refinished hardwood floors, a two-car garage and an expansive kitchen with center island, granite countertops and built-in stainless steel appliances.

Vick, who turned himself in Nov. 19 in anticipation of his sentence, was wearing a black-and-white striped prison suit. After Vick apologized to the court and his family, Hudson told him: “You need to apologize to the millions of young people who looked up to you.” “Yes, sir,” Vick answered. Vick acknowledged he used “poor judgment” and added, “I’m willing to deal with the consequences and accept responsibility for my actions.” Federal rules governing time off for good behavior could reduce Vick’s prison stay by about three months, resulting in a summer 2009 release. Before the hearing started, Michael Vick’s brother, Marcus Vick, sat with his right arm around their mother, comforting her as she buried her head in her hands and wept. Vick pleaded guilty in August, admitting he bankrolled the “Bad Newz Kennels” dogfighting operation and helped kill six to eight dogs. He has been held at a jail in Warsaw, Va., since he voluntarily began serving his sentence.

Suspended NFL quarterback Michael Vick stands to lose $22 million in bonus money from the Atlanta Falcons, who sent reps to Philadelphia Thursday to plead their case before an arbitrator. The Falcons, represented by team president and general manager Rich McKay and three more team officials, argued that Vick knew he was in violation of the contract when he signed the $130 million deal in December of 2004, and that he used proceeds from the deal to fund his dogfighting operation, reports the Associated Press. New York-based attorney Jeffrey Kessler, who represented Vick and the NFL Players Association, countered that the collective bargaining extension agreed to last year prevents forfeiture of bonus money even if the player contract says otherwise, union spokesman Carl Francis said. A decision on the matter is expected sometime before Oct. 12, according to Stephen B. Burbank, the University of Pennsylvania law professor and special master who led the arbitration hearing.

Two banks have filed lawsuits against the suspended NFL quarterback in less than two weeks over his failure to repay loans totaling $4.3 million, reports the Associated Press.  South Bend-based 1st Source Bank, is suing Vick and his Atlanta-based company, Divine Seven LLC, for $2 million. The bank says Divine Seven took out the loan in January to purchase a fleet of vehicles – Kia Optimas and Spectras, Ford Tauruses, and others — for an Atlanta-based car rental agency. Last week, the Royal Bank of Canada filed a lawsuit against Vick for $2.3 million for defaulting on loans he took out to invest in real estate. The bank said that because Vick had been suspended by the NFL, it affected his ability to repay the loan. That poor guy is going thru it man!

ESPN Reports…A urine sample submitted by Michael Vick has tested positive for marijuana, and as a result he’ll have tighter restrictions on his freedom.

The test was taken on Sept. 13. Because of the positive test, federal court probation officer Patricia Locket-Ross, who is assigned to Vick, asked Judge Henry Hudson to place special conditions on Vick’s release, which include refraining from use or unlawful possession of a narcotic drug or other controlled substance. Also, Vick must submit to any method of testing at any time. Vick must also participate in a program of inpatient or outpatient substance therapy and mental health counseling if the pretrial services officer or supervising officer deem it appropriate. Vick is also now restricted to his residence every day from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. or as directed by the pretrial services officer. The home confinement will include electronic monitoring. DAMN!

The NFL quarterback  apologized specifically to the commissioner of the NFL and to the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, as well as his coach  and teammates.
