Rumor has it that Laurie Ann Gibson got into a brawl at Missy Elliot’s birthday party. Laurie denies the allegations in a recent interview and claims the fight was really between her make-up artist and a waitress at the club. Her make artist, Deborah Padilla was arrested on the scene and the waitress ended up in the hospital with injuries. “When I read the paper I was in shock,” Gibson explained. “I was with Missy having a great time and didn’t even know there was a fight. I found out later it was my makeup artist and I got to her the next day.” Gibson criticizes the venue, Marquee nightclub, for allegedly not providing a safe environment for patrons. (more…)

Missy Elliot and Adidas renewed their partnership this week for the “Respect M.E.” sportswear line. With that said, Missy has launched a worldwide talent competition entitled “Stand Up Be Seen” which starts this month. “Stand Up Be Seen” will recruit 10 female ambassadors for Missy and her Adidas urban themed streetwear.The “Stand Up. Be Seen” competition will launch in the United States, Argentina, the Asian Pacific Region, China, Japan, Korea, Europe, Germany, France, UK, Italy, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Switzerland. The ten winners of the competition will be featured in the Fall/Winter 2008 Respect M.E. campaign, while five will continue on to be the faces of the Respect M.E. line, starting with the Spring and Summer 2009. Reuters reports that Missy Elliot will be releasing her seventh solo album this May. The album is currently untitled. Missy, who opted not to work with her longtime partner in crime, Timbaland, on her last album, will reunite on this new project (thank goodness). Two of Missy’s singles will appear on the soundtrack to the dance flick Step Up 2 which hits theatres next month.
