Def Jam is doing something special for the holidays! Hip-hop’s most prestigious label is giving its fans a gift with the release of the compilation CD Def Jam Sessions, Vol.1. The disc will hit shelved on December 18. Kelis has been dropped from Jive Records. “It was a case of being in the ever-shrinking world of the record industry and finding herself on a label she wasn’t signed to and without a champion,” Kelis’ manager, Jeff Rabhan told the entertainment news outlet. “She’s a different kind of artist – very image and style-driven. Nas has revealed that his plans to release an album titled Nigger in December have not changed despite reports that his label Def Jam shut down the idea. In an interview with MTV today (October 18), Nas claimed that Nigger will drop on December 11th.  The Queens rapper also claims he has met no resistance from Def Jam. I don’t know where that [report] came from and neither does Def Jam,” said Nas referring to the Fox News report.  “None of us knows where that came from.” Nas also had some words to say about Jesse Jackson’s criticism towards the album’s title:  “I’m a street disciple,” Nas explained.  “I’m talking to the streets.  Stay out of our business.  You ain’t got no business worrying about what the word ‘nigger’ is or acting like you know what my album is about without talking to me” “Whether you in the NAACP or you Jesse Jackson.  I respect all of them … I just want them to know: Never fall victim to Fox. Never fall victim to the shit they do,” he stressed. “ What they do is try to hurry up and get you on the phone and try to get you to talk about something you might not know about yet.”

 According to MTV News,  Nas said his new album will be called “Nigga” and will be released in December. While details surrounding the LP are still sketchy, MTV confirmed the project’s name and producer Jermaine Dupri has expressed interest in contributing to the album. (more…)
