The prosecution’s star witnesses finally took the stand Monday in R. Kelly’s child pornography trial and told jurors about three sexual encounters she had with the singer and the alleged victim in the case.
The prosecutor’s star witness in the R. Kelly trial took the stand yesterday. Her name is Lisa Van Allen, who is 27 now, but testified that at age of 17 she met Kelly at the video shoot for “Home Alone” and the two had sex shortly after meeting. She said she began taking trips from her home in Georgia to Chicago to visit R. Kelly who paid for the hotel rooms unless they met in the studio where the R&B star recorded. In 1998, the 17 year old quit her job and moved to Chicago to be with R. Kelly. Van Allen said the first sexual encounter was in the log-cabin themed room in Kelly’s former Chicago home where she first met the alleged victim. (more…)
Oh boy! The plot thickens in the R. Kelly trial. The trial was adjourned earlier than expected yesterday (Wednesday) due to a spontaneous emergence of a new witness. Defense attorney Sam Adam Sr. said he got a call yesterday morning from a man who claims to have information that will undermine the testimony of the prosecution’s star witness. “We never knew about the witness until 9 a.m. this morning,” Adam said, according to reports. “The witness called us.” We hear that the witness may the the prosecution’s star witness’ ex-boyfriend. The defense told the judge that they needed to talk to this new witness before the woman testified. The defense is hoping to discredit the woman who was to be a key part of the case against Kelly. She is the only prosecution witness claiming to have actually seen sexual contact between Kelly and the young teen. (more…)
Well, well, well. Two more witnesses identified the girl on the sex tape whom prosecutors believe was underage when filmed having sex with the R&B star. R. Kelly and the young woman continue to deny the allegations. Kelly’s lawyers even revealed that R.Kelly has a mole on his back and the man on the tape didn’t. (LOL). Raven Gengler, 22, testified Tuesday that she was a childhood friend of the girl and recognized her as the teen in the sex tape, which prosecutors claim was made between Jan. 1, 1998, and Nov. 1, 2000. They say the young female in the tape was born in September 1984. An additional witness, Tjada Burnett, a family friend said she recognized the alleged victim by “cheeks, her nose, her facial structure.” Under cross examination, the defense attorney argued that the alleged victim had braces in the late 1990s, but the young woman in the video didn’t appear to be wearing braces. It’s not looking too good for the R&B mogul. Four witnesses identified the girl, now 23, as the one on the sex tape; she herself has denied she’s the person in the video. The girl’s uncle and aunt, however, identify her as the one in the tape. The defense continues to use their defense that R.Kelly is not the man in the infamous sex tape. They say it was digitally altered. Do you believe that? Be honest (leave your comments!).
Furthermore, Defense attorney Sam Adam Jr. said “Something could have been done to put a different head on that body”. (more…)
Opening arguments have commenced in the R. Kelly trial. Kelly, 41, is accused of videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl who prosecutors maintain was as young as 13 when the tape was made between Jan. 1, 1998, and Nov. 1, 2000. The alleged victim, who is now twenty-three continues to deny she is the person featured in the sex tape.
“A child doesn’t choose to be violated and placed on a videotape, a videotape that will live on forever — long after this child becomes an adult,” Cook County prosecutor Shauna Boliker told jurors during opening arguments. (more…)
The jury is selected in the R. Kelly child pornography trial. The Chicago court session almost ended yesterday with 12 members and two alternates firmly in place and two more alternates about to be selected. The jury panel consist of eight whites and four black. The jurors were selected but Kelly’s defense team accused the prosecutors of intentionally striking minorities from the jury pool in favor of whites. The defense firmly believes that the prosecutors are playing the race card. The prosecution has already used four of their seven challenges to remove minorities during the selection process. Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan also approved the state’s attorneys request to remove a black man who lied about having spent time in jail. (more…)
R. Kelly’s trial is no longer postponed and jury selection has commenced. As jury selection took place for the R&B singer’s child pornography trial Monday, Kelly showed little emotion and occasionally leaned over to speak with his lawyers. As you may recall, the 41-year-old singer has pleaded not guilty to charges that he videotaped himself having sex with a girl as young as 13. According to AP, the attorneys and judge questioned 150 potential jurors and have selected three. (more…)
The much delayed R Kelly trial has been postponed ONCE AGAIN. Just two days before jury, the singer’s defense team filed a motion Wednesday asking that Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan delay the trial because of “a torrent of publicity surrounding the case.” (more…)
The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that a witness in R. Kelly’s upcoming child pornography trial will testify that she had a three way sexual encounter with the singer and the allegedly underage girl depicted in a sex tape. Kelly’s lawyers have a big case to defend. The alleged victim will testify that she is NOT the girl in the tape, but the new witness is expected to not only identify the girl in the tape, but testify that she was indeed underage at the time of the recording.
