Producer/writer/actor Tyler Perry faces federal charges in a copyright infringement lawsuit brought by a woman who claims his 2005 film “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” was copied from an original story she wrote in 1990.

According to KSLA News 12, Perry’s company Tyler Perry Studios, and Lionsgate Entertainment, were also named in the suit which was filed by Donna West in May 2007. West is seeking all profits made from “Diary” as well as damages. West says she wrote a story called “Fantasy of a Black Woman” in 1990. She got a copyright for the film in 2006. Perry’s lawyers said that West has no grounds to sue because she didn’t register her work until after the allegations. “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” debut February 2005. (more…)

Tyler Perry unveiled a new multimillion-dollar TV and film studio on 30 acres in southwest Atlanta this past weekend. Many big name celebrities attended the gala for first major television and movie studio owned and run by an African-American film producer. Love this dude! Tyler Perry spent Tuesday morning at Hosea Feed the Hungry and the Homless Care Center in Atlanta to hand out food to those in need. The director of the recent film “The Family That Preys” said he felt compelled to help out after hearing about the center’s efforts on the news. “I had to do something,” Perry told the AP. As you may know, Perry was once homeless in his New Orleans hometown. So this hit close to home. He donated enough food to feed 1,000 families for the next two weeks. “I’ve been out on the street, I know what it’s about,” said Perry. “I couldn’t imagine doing that with children looking at me for food.” (more…)

I guess Tyler Perry didn’t want to help a family member out! LOL. So, how about Tyler Perry’s cousin, Marlon Campbell attempted to use his famous cousin’s name to try to promote his independant film, “Oblivious”. After Perry and his lawyers got word of the marketing scheme, they quickly sent a letter to Campbell stating that any connection between Tyler’s work and “Oblivious” is “intentionally misleading” and “wrongfully infringes upon the economic value of Mr. Perry.”  LOL!      

Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people included filmmaker Tyler Perry, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and singer Mariah Carey which join the likes of President Bush, the Dalai Lama and Miley Cyrus. Time Magazine announced on Thursday that the cut included 30 celebs whose appearance on the list was based soley on votes on the magazine’s website.  Oprah  Winfrey was cited alongside fellow “influential” entertainers Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Mia Farrow as “heroes and pioneers” for global goodwill.  (more…)

Actress Keshia Knight Pulliam is booked for a new gig…playing a prostitute! LOL….The actress who is best known as her role playing little Rudy Huxtable from the sitcom “The Cosby Show,” will play an imprisoned prostitute in the upcoming film “Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail.” Pulliam, 29, will play a young lady by the name of Candy, a prisoner who comes to learn valuable life lesson from new inmate, Madea. UH OH! Tyler Perry has a stalker! Our spies sent me the email Mr. Perry sent out to his staff at Tyler Perry Studios which mentioned that he is dealing with a stalker who has planned a wedding for them. WTF?

Here is an excerpt from Perry’s email to staff:

Hi Everybody,

Okay, I know that I haven’t written in a while but I’ve been dealing with
a situation.

“I’m trying to be careful how I say this without inciting this person, but
I have a stalker. This person sends several hundred emails a day to my
office and has planned our wedding and bought rings and such. She has
showed up at my house several times. What’s crazy is I’ve never met this
woman nor have I even responded to her emails.
