The rumors on the internet went wild over the weekend announcing that Nelly and Ashanti called it quits after five years of dating. The New York Daily News quotes a source who claims the couple split up because she’s ready to get married and he isn’t.

As previously reported, singer Ashanti landed the roles Dorothy in the New York City Center Encores! Summer Stars production of The Wiz, June 12 – July 5 at New York City Center (W. 55th Street between 6th & 7th Avenues). Ashanti was spotted with her mom/manager at the City Theater yesterday where she gave a special sneak peak performance in anticipation of her role in the stageplay.

Irv Gotti spoke with MTV.com about his relationship with Ashanti. The Murder Inc. CEO says he is dropping her from his label due to creative differences.

“The relationship has run its course,” Gotti explained earlier this week while visiting the MTV offices. “The chemistry of what’s needed — we’re in two totally different places. You’re talking to somebody that took her and shaped and molded her and put her out there for the world, and it blew up. We [hold the record] for the [fastest] selling debut by a female R&B artist — 503 [thousand]. We did it! My views and philosophies and her views and philosophies are not meeting up.”

St. Louis Rapper, Nelly, will make a multi-episode guest appearance as a club owner/informant on the forensic crime series CSI: NY this Fall.
